I’m excited to announce my new single BACK IN THE DAYwww.soundcloud.com/mitchwickid/back-in-the-day-revisted

This is a homage to my youth and a tip of the hat to my lineage. Give it a listen and let me know if you hear anything nostalgic.

BACK IN THE DAY

We didn’t have ipads — let’s note that from the start.

We stacked carriages on cement behind the old Kmart.

That was our basketball court — and back then I could barely dunk cause I was kinda short.

Our ball was small and warped and needed some air.

But we didn’t care, dribbling with no fear, attacking steel cages like we were Ric Flair.

Just a bunch of crafty Rockland kids in the dump.

Remember our football games, the end zone was a speed bump.

You’d catch a pass and have to jump it like a camel hump.

What about our baseball ump? Always some chump calling strikes from a tree stump.

Yeah, we made the most of what we had.

And I only played on weekends when visiting my dad.

You see my parents broke up when I was eight.

A toxic marriage ended by jealously and hate.

Or maybe it was fate!

CHORUS

When I moved to Hingham — there was no rideshare.

If you had to go somewhere — your parents had to take you there.

Me and Pat Ryan rode BMX bikes. We’d pedal World’s End on adventurous hikes.

All the wildlife would come right at you. And nothing was still like The Lincoln Statue.

In the fall it was stickball or a movie at Loring Hall.

Do you recall a sawed-off hockey stick and tennis ball?

Winter was sledding time at the country club.

It was freezing on the south shore of The Hub.

You needed a hot toddy from The Snug pub.

Or heat up at The Galley with a warm sub.

Oh man, their diced pickles were fresh and fat.

Yes Keith, I want oils and spices with that.

The end of summertime was my birthday, yes sir.

I remember rocking LL Cool J’s “How To Walk A Panther.”

CHORUS

A high school freshman — can you believe that?

A high school fresh man — Hickey stole my hat!

But bullies fade like cheap chalk in the rain.

So let’s shoot a video to “Jump Around” House of Pain.

We’ll peg our Girbaud jeans and rock all fashion fads.

My mother married Bob so now I’m confident with two dads.

Or maybe we do “Naughty by Nature” OPP.

How does this sound? A production from J and P?

We could be famous, let’s see, things are going really great for me.

Homecoming King, noboby beats The Whiz, captain of the basketball team,

with a girlfriend and sister named Liz.

His star was shining bright but he had to stay humble.

A sprained ankle senior year, watch that hoop career crumble.

But before he could sulk and wallow with self pity.

I got the acceptance letter — Roger Williams University.
